Afraid of the torment of the hell fire:
رَبَّنَا اصْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا
If you are afraid Allah may not accept your good deeds:
رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

is continually growing at rapid pace across the globe and the European
countries are particularly experiencing growing number of Muslims
in their population. On the other hand, they are also witnessing
drastic decline in Christianity among their people as people find peace
in the true religion of Islam.
These facts have been endorsed by different surveys conducted in the western world. Recently,
a new large-scale survey also completely endorsed the facts and showed a
dramatic decline in Christianity among young British people and an
equally notable increase in the numbers adhering to Islam.
The survey of 20,062 people was commissioned by former British Conservative party’s Deputy Chairman, Lord Ashcroft.
Titled
“Small island: Public opinion and the politics of Immigration,” the
poll included a question asking, “To which of the following religious
groups do you consider yourself to be a member of?”
According
to a press release on the National Secular Society website, some 36
percent of those surveyed across all age categories have no religion
while 55 percent said that they are Christians and 3 percent described
themselves as Muslim.
Meanwhile,
in the 18-24 age group, 46 percent said that they have no religion
while 33 said that they are Christians and 11 percent identify
themselves as Muslim.
“The
large number of young people identifying as Muslims – much larger than
previous generations – suggests that Islam will soon be a much more
significant force in this country than it is at the moment,” said Terry
Sanderson, President of the National Secular Society.
Earlier
in May, an analysis of the 2011 census suggested that Islam could
overtake Christianity as the dominant religion in Britain in ten years
for the first time ever.
According
to the report published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS),
the number of people following the Christian faith in the UK has fallen
from 71.7 percent in 2001 to 59.3 percent in 2011.

- Touring the black continent for years to introduce Christianity to
Africans, a Sierra Leonean Christian missionary has reverted to Islam, turning into a Muslim preacher who helped thousands of Africans to find Islam.
"For many years, I tried to persuade Muslims in my country to adopt Christianity, then I had a dream in which I was invited to adopt Islam," Musa Bangura, told Anadolu Agency on Sunday, September 8.
Bangura with Islam started twenty years ago when he had the same dream of "Islam invitation" for three consecutive times.
Converting to Islam in 1993, he became one of the leading Muslim preachers in Africa and Sierra Leone.
Instead of spanning across Africa to call people to adopt Christianity, the new Muslim preacher had a new mission to find differences and similarities between Islam and Christianity.
He even tried to invite his fellow priests to convert to Islam.
"I revealed the contradictions in Christianity which resulted in my discussions with Christian priests, Bangura said.
I proved them that Islam is the real religion.
Muslims believe in Jesus as one of the great Prophets of God and that he is the son of Mary but not the Son of God. He was conceived and born miraculously.
In the Noble Qur'an, Jesus is called "Isa". He is also known as Al-Masih (the Christ) and Ibn Maryam (Son of Mary(.
As for his crucifixion, Muslims believe that Jesus was not crucified but was lifted up to heaven.
Muslims believe that Jesus will come back to earth before the end of time to restore peace and order, fight the Anti-Christ (Al-Masih Al-Dajjal) and bring victory for truth and righteousness.
The true followers of Jesus will prevail over those who deny him, misrepresent him and reject him.
Humanitarian Activist
Abandoned by his family and wife after converting to Islam, Bangura tried to build a bigger family by helping needy Sierra Leone Muslims.
He later launched 'Why Islam' website to introduce true information about Islam as well as directing Why Islam In Action (WIIA) organization, sponsored by a Turkish organization, IHH Insani Yardim Vakfi.
The website achieved huge success, helping more than 8,000 non-Muslims to adopt Islam.
"I now work for the Christians in my county and try to help them realise the truth and choose Islam," Bagura said.
Why Islam In Action (WIIA), is a non-governmental humanitarian organization.
It was established in 1995, under the auspice of Bangura.
About four million of the Sierra Leone six million citizens are Muslim.

UK Christians embracing Islam, making Islam fastest-growing religion

London:
Islam, despite being falsely propagated as a terror religion, is
growing rapidly in the western countries which are normally
Christian-populous countries. The United Kingdom is one of the best
examples of this where Christians in big numbers are converting to be
Muslims making Islam to be the fastest growing religion in the British
state.
The
dominance of Islam has been endorsed by the nationwide census conducted
recently in the UK which has not only proved Islam to be the fastest
growing religion but also the second biggest religion in the country.
One
of the analyst said, “All indications are that a growing number of
Britons who grew up in nominally Christian households are converting to
Islam. This partially explains why the number of Muslims is increasing
while the number of Christians is declining…this trend can be expected
to continue.”
According
to the census results, Muslims now make up 5 percent of the UK
population. The current rates of growth indicates that the number of
Muslims would double again by the time the next census is conducted in
2021, and would then make up 10 percent of the population.
During
the same period, the Muslim population in England and Wales increased
by 80 percent (1.2 million), from 1.5 million in 2001 to 2.7 million in
2011, making it the second-largest religion in Britain.
Many
analysts believe that the true number of Muslims in Britain may be much
higher than indicated by the census data. This is because the religion
question was the only voluntary question on the 2011 Census and 7.2
percent of people did not answer the question.
The
third-largest religion in England and Wales is Hinduism (817,000),
followed by Sikhism (423,000), Buddhism (248,000) and Judaism (263,000),
the Census report said.
As
a proportion of the population as a whole (56.07 million people were
counted in the census), the number of those describing themselves as
Christian has dropped from 72 percent in 2001 to 59 percent in 2011. The
number of Muslims has increased from 3 percent to 5 percent over a
decade.
The
census data shows that the number of Christians in England and Wales
declined by 11 percent (4.1 million) during the past decade, from 37.3
million in 2001 to 33.2 million in 2011.
The
census data clearly shows that Islam is growing at a rapid pace and huge
numbers of non-Muslims are embracing Islam even though western portrays
peaceful Islam as a religion of terrorists and spreads false propaganda
against the Muslims.

Islam And Tolerance And Non-Violence
Islam is a religion of peace – peace to humanity and one and all. It is a religion to lead mankind from the depths of darkness and ignorance towards the path of light and knowledge. The literal meaning of Islam, derived from the Arabic word Salaam, means peace. The word “Islam” has another root derivation – Slim – which means surrender or submission. In short, Islam means peace acquired by humans by submitting their will to the Will of Allah.
Moreover, Islam not only fosters love between fellow Muslims;
rather it is a merciful for all of humankind. The “peace” of Islam has
got many dimensions: peace with Allah, peace with society and peace with
all of mankind irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Islam guides
people to the path of non-violence and tolerance and shows the path of
righteousness and piety.
Coming
to the point, a religion with such high values enshrined in its very
name is misunderstood by the bulk of humans as violent and intolerant.
If any Muslim commits a wrong, it is directly or indirectly attributed
to Islam. The misinterpretation of many mischievous people has given a
bad name to this “religion of peace”. But, at this critical point,
people should know that Islam is not what X or Y says. It is not this
scholar’s or that scholar’s interpretation; Islam is what the Holy
Scripture – the Quran says and what Muhammad– the Prophet of Islam says.
They are the two primary sources of Islam.
Islam is against compulsion in religion
It
is enshrined in the the Holy Quran that there is no compulsion in
Islam. Muslims are prohibited to force people of other faiths to accept
Islam. There is no tolerance for one who forces another person to submit
to his/ her will and convert to the religion unwillingly. Allah says:
“Let
there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error:
whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah has grasped the most
trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah hears and knows all
things. ” [Sura Baqara 2:256]
This
is the foundation for tolerance towards any and every religion and
their people. There is no force and no compulsion on any individual to
accept Islam. If he or she wants to accept Islam, it has to be
necessarily out of their own free will and not at the point of sword.
This is the essence of Islam. Islam is an open invitation to mankind and
they have the full right either to accept it or to reject it.
Islam is non-violent and tolerant
Violence
is not in the dictionary of Islam. There is no place for violence,
neither in the Holy Quran nor in the Sunnah (Prophetic traditions). It
is mentioned at several places in the Holy Quran that Allah does not
like those who spread mischief on this earth. One such verse is:
“…Allah does not love those who do mischief…” [Sura Mai’dah 5:64]. “Mischief”, in Arabic is Fasad, and it can refer to murder, corruption, evil and violence. So, when Allah does not like those who spread violence, how can He legislate violence in His Deen? These two opposites can never exist in Islam.
Moreover,
the biggest violence – killing innocent people – is repudiated in such
strong words the likes of which are found in no other religious
scripture:
“…if
any one kills a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading
mischief in the land - it would be as if he killed the whole humanity:
and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the
whole humanity…”[Sura Mai’dah 5:31]
This
verse explicitly denounces any innocent killing. Even in retaliation or
in war, Muslims are not supposed to kill innocent people. In a Hadith
(Prophetic Tradition), Muhammad said: “Go out in the name of Allah and by the help of Allah, following the way of the Messenger of Allah. Do not kill any old man, infant, child or woman… spread goodness and do good, for Allah loves those who do good.”(Abu Dawood).
At
other place in the Holy Quran, Allah asks the believer to keep the door
for peace wide open. The door of peace is open all the time in Islam,
even in a battle field. Allah says, “… If the enemy incline towards peace, you (also) incline towards peace, and trust in Allah…”[Sura Anfal 8:61].
Even
in retaliation, a Muslim is not supposed to transgress. If you have
been wronged by some person, you have no right to wrong them or any
other person to take revenge. And, if you are helpless and unable to do
anything, Islam orders you to cling to patience. There is no permission
for violence, whatsoever, in Islam at any point of time. Reflecting on
the following Hadith: "If
anyone harms (others), Allah will harm him, and if anyone shows
hostility to others, Allah will show hostility to him." (Abu Dawood),
makes it clear that complete tolerance, peace and perseverance are the
virtues ascribed by the religion.

Principle to Practice
ISLAMIC ECONOMICS
By Mohammed Ashraf, FCCA taxonomy.ashraf@gmail.com
Many people always try to fit in the Islamic Economic Principles into the modern economic terminologies instead of adopting a vice versa approach. Without even realizing the fact that these modern terminologies were either originated from the Greeks or research of Muslim economists. In order to remove this misconception, this article is an endeavor to highlight the origin of modern economic concepts and key aspects of Islamic Economics including monetary and fiscal policy from principles to practice.
Basics of Monetary Policy
Conventional monetary policy can be traced back to late 19th century when it is used to maintain gold standard and it’s most modern form is known as gold bullion standard [GBS]. GBS is a system in which gold coins do not circulate, but in which the authorities have agreed to sell gold bullion on demand at a fixed price in exchange for circulating money. Until 1971 most monies of the world were backed by gold. Surprisingly, the current value of paper or electronic money are not backed by gold but can be adjusted by the creators of money.
Monetary policy attempts to stabilize the economy by controlling the interest rates and spending by restricting the governmental borrowings. The monetary policy is a big impediment to free market economy because government controls the economy through monetary policy which is not possible in a gold environment. This is exactly what happened in so called free market capitalist economy in 1931 when gold replacement of currencies were stopped by banks.
With the passage of time, just to control the so called free economy through monetary policy, a layer upon layer over currencies were introduced, that is, initially currency was introduced then undermining currency positions were covered up through book adjustments and now through the concept of plastic money.
Monetary Policy in Islam
The prime concept of free economy is already present in Islamic Economic Principles [IEP]. IEP are strictly against the concentration of wealth and prohibits through the one and only evil – The Riba [Interest].
In contrast to conventional monetary policy, IEP does not suffer from the evils of interest rates, Seignorage (the benefit from printing money) and borrowing money from the population through bills etc. As the concept of interest is absent in IEP, hence, the concept of monetary policy in IEP is restricted to maintaining gold standard, that is, for what it was initially developed.
Gold Standard is based on Islamic principles. Islam considers commodities with intrinsic value as currency. Following are some examples of commodities used as currency: Gold, Silver, Rice, Dates, Wheat, Barley and Salt. Price of a commodity is set by the market itself without any government intervention.
The concept of money was prevalent even prior to Last Prophet PBUH, whereby 1 Dinar [Gold] is equal to 10 Dirhams [Silver]. Even today, silver has a defined parity with gold. The Goldsmith used to put there stamps on Dinar and Dirham to prove there authenticity.
In most of the historical accounts, it states that among the Rashideen caliphs, Syeddana Uthman ibn Affan RA was first to struck the coins, some accounts however states that Syeddana Umar RA was first to do so. When Persia was conquered three types of coins were current in the conquered territories, namely Baghli of 8 dang; Tabari of 4 dang; and Maghribi of 3 dang. Umar (according to some accounts Uthman ) made an innovation and struck an Islamic dirham of 6 dang.
Under IEP, the role of central banks under Islamic Economic Principles would be of International Trade Accounting of a country, review the Shariah Compliant Financial Products and regulate the financial institutions. Consequently, the concept of banking under IEP would be offer Shariah Compliant Financial Products as intermediary, gold vaults for customer and converting currency into gold on account holders’ demand apart from currency handling in transitory phase.
Basics of Fiscal Policy
Fiscal policy is contrasted with monetary policy which attempts to stabilize the economy by controlling interest rates, exchange rates and the supply of money. It uses two main instruments - government spending and taxation. Changes in the level and composition of taxation and government spending can impact on the following variables in the economy:
• Aggregate demand and the level of economic activity;
• The pattern of resource allocation;
• The distribution of income.
Basics of Keynesian Economics
Keynesian economics, called Keynesianism and Keynesian theory, is a school of macroeconomic thought based on the ideas of 20th-century English economist John Maynard Keynes.
Keynesian economics argues that private sector decisions sometimes lead to inefficient macroeconomic outcomes and, therefore, advocates active policy responses by the public sector, including monetary policy actions by the central bank and fiscal policy actions by the government to stabilize output over the business cycle. The theories forming the basis of Keynesian economics were first presented in The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, published in 1936. The interpretations of Keynes are contentious and several schools of thought claim his legacy.
Keynesian economics advocates a mixed economy — predominantly private sector, but with a significant role of government and public sector — and served as the economic model during the later part of the Great Depression, World War II, and the postwar economic expansion (1945–1973), though it lost some influence following the stagflation of the 1970s. The advent of the global financial crisis in 2008 has caused resurgence in Keynesian thought
Fiscal Policy in Islam
During the period of Islamic Governance in Madina, a social transformation took place as a result of changing land ownership giving individuals of any gender, ethnic or religious background the right to buy, sell, mortgage and inherit land. Based on the Quran, signatures were required on contracts for major financial transactions concerning agriculture, industry, commerce and employment. Copies of the contract were usually kept by both parties involved, hence, all we are practicing now is not an alien to Islamic Economic Principles [IEP].
As we all know that IEP is deduced from Quran and Sunnah. Early Islamic Economic Thinkers have developed various economic models that forms the concrete basis of modern economic principles.
Early Islamic Economic Thinkers
Among the earliest Muslim economic thinkers was Abu Yousuf (731-798), a student of Imam Abu Hanifah. Abu Yusuf was chief jurist for Abbasi Caliph Haroon Ar Rasheed, for whom he wrote the Book of Taxation (Kitab al-Kharaj). This book outlined Abu Yusuf's ideas on taxation, public finance, and agricultural production. He discussed proportional tax on produce instead of fixed taxes on property as being superior as an incentive to bring more land into cultivation. He also advocated forgiving tax policies which favor the producer and a centralized tax administration to reduce corruption. Abu Yusuf favored the use of tax revenues for socioeconomic infrastructure, and included discussion of various types of taxes, including sales tax, death taxes, and import tariffs.
Early discussion of the benefits of division of labor are included in the writings of Qabus, Ghazali, Farabi (873–950), Ibn e Sina (Avicenna) (980–1037), Ibn Miskawayh, Nasir uddin Tusi (1201–74), Ibn e Khaldun (1332–1406), and Asaad Davani (b. 1444). Among them, the discussions included division of labor within households, societies, factories, and among nations.
Many scholars trace the history of economic thought through the Muslim world, which was in a golden age from the 8th to 13th century. A common theme among these scholars was the praise of economic activity and even self-interested accumulation of wealth. Persian philosopher Ibn Miskawayh (b. 1030) notes - "The creditor desires the well-being of the debtor in order to get his money back rather than because of his love for him. The debtor, on the other hand, does not take great interest in the creditor."
Ibn TaymiyyahThe power of supply and demand was understood to some extent by Ibn Taymiyyah and he illustrates:
"If desire for goods increases while its availability decreases, its price rises. On the other hand, if availability of the good increases and the desire for it decreases, the price comes down."
Ibn Taymiyyah also elaborated a circumstantial analysis of the market mechanism, with a theoretical insight unusual in his time. His discourses on the welfare advantages and disadvantages of market regulation and deregulation have an almost contemporary ring to them.
GhazaliGhazali (1058–1111) classified economics as one of the sciences connected with religion, along with metaphysics, ethics, and psychology. Authors have noted, however, that this connection has not caused early Muslim economic thought to remain static. Ghazali suggests an early version of price inelasticity of demand for certain goods, and he also discuss equilibrium price.
Ghazali was also noted for his subtle understanding of monetary theory and formulation of another version of Gresham’s law.
Nasir ud din al Tusi Persian philosopher Nasir ud din al Tusi (1201–1274) presents an early definition of economics (what he calls hekmat-e-madani, the science of city life) in discourse three of his Ethics: - "the study of universal laws governing the public interest (welfare) in so far as they are directed, through cooperation, toward the optimal (perfection)."
Farabi
Farabi notes that each society lacks at least some necessary resources, and thus an optimal society can only be achieved where domestic, regional, and international trade occur, and that such trade can be beneficial to all parties involved.
Ibn Khaldun
In 1964, Joseph Spengler's "Economic Thought of Islam: Ibn Khaldun" appeared in the journal Comparative Studies in Society and History and took a large step in bringing early Muslim scholars to the attention of the contemporary West. Ibn Khaldūn or Ibn Khaldoun (March 19, 1406 AD/808 AH) was an Arab Tunisian historiographer and historian who is often viewed as one of the forerunners of modern historiography, sociology and economics.
Perhaps the most well–known Islamic scholar who wrote about economics was Ibn Khaldun, who is considered a father of modern economics. Ibn Khaldun wrote on economic and political theory in the introduction, or Muqaddimah (Prolegomena), of his History of the World (Kitab al-Ibar). He discussed what he called asabiyya (social cohesion), which he cited as the cause of some civilizations becoming great and others not. Ibn Khaldun felt that many social forces are cyclic, although there could be sudden sharp turns that break the pattern.
He is best known for his Muqaddimah (known as Prolegomenon in English), which was discovered, evaluated and fully appreciated first by 19th century European scholarship, although it has also had considerable influence on 17th-century Ottoman historians like Hajji Khalifa and Mustafa Naima who relied on his theories to analyze the growth and decline of the Ottoman empire. Later in the 19th century, Western scholars recognized him as one of the greatest philosophers to come out of the Muslim world. The key concepts of Ibn e Khaldun are briefly discussed below:
Asabiyya – Social Cohesion
Ibn Khaldun wrote on economic and political theory in the Muqaddimah, relating his thoughts on asabiyya to the division of labor: the greater the social cohesion, the more complex the division may be, the greater the economic growth.
His theory of asabiyyah has often been compared to modern Keynesian economics, with Ibn Khaldun's theory clearly containing the concept of the multiplier. A crucial difference, however, is that whereas for John Maynard Keynes it is the middle class's greater propensity to save that is to blame for economic depression, for Ibn Khaldun it is the governmental propensity to save at times when investment opportunities do not take up the slack which leads to aggregate demand.
Labor Theory of Value
Ibn Khaldun also introduced the labor theory of value. He described labor as the source of value, necessary for all earnings and capital accumulation, obvious in the case of craft. He argued that even if earning “results from something other than a craft, the value of the resulting profit and acquired (capital) must (also) include the value of the labor by which it was obtained. Without labor, it would not have been acquired.”
Population and Economic Growth
Ibn Khaldun noted that growth and development positively stimulate both supply and demand, and that the forces of supply and demand are what determine the prices of goods. He also noted macroeconomic forces of population growth, human capital development, and technological developments effects on development. Ibn Khaldun held that population growth was a function of wealth. He illustrates as follows:
When civilization [population] increases, the available labor again increases. In turn, luxury again increases in correspondence with the increasing profit, and the customs and needs of luxury increase. Crafts are created to obtain luxury products. The value realized from them increases, and, as a result, profits are again multiplied in the town. Production there is thriving even more than before. And so it goes with the second and third increase. All the additional labor serves luxury and wealth, in contrast to the original labor that served the necessity of life
Concept of Supply Side Economics
Another modern economic theory anticipated by Ibn Khaldun is supply-side economics. He "argued that high taxes were often a factor in causing empires to collapse, with the result that lower revenue was collected from high rates." He wrote.
Ibn Khaldun introduced the concept now popularly known as the Laffer Curve, that increases in tax rates initially increase tax revenues, but eventually the increases in tax rates cause a decrease in tax revenues. This occurs as too high a tax rate discourages producers in the economy.
Ibn Khaldun used a dialectic approach to describe the sociological implications of tax choice (which now forms a part of economics theory):
"It should be known that at the beginning of the dynasty, taxation yields large revenue from small assessments. At the end of the dynasty, taxation yields small revenue from large assessments."
He said that in the early stages of the state, taxes are light in their incidence, but fetch in large revenue...As time passes and kings succeed each other, they lose their tribal habits in favor of more civilized ones. Their needs and exigencies grow...owing to the luxury in which they have been brought up. Hence they impose fresh taxes on their subjects...and sharply raise the rate of old taxes to increase their yield...But the effects on business of this rise in taxation make themselves felt. For business men are soon discouraged by the comparison of their profits with the burden of their taxes...Consequently production falls off, and with it the yield of taxation.
Concept of Money
Ibn Khaldun understood that money served as a standard of value, a medium of exchange, and a preserver of value.
Concept of Giant Corporate and MultinationalsHe mentioned that Businesses owned by responsible and organized merchants shall eventually surpass those owned by wealthy rulers.
ConclusionIt is evident from the above that the majority of modern economic terminologies are deduced from the principles enunciated in Quran and Ahadees. Further, the foundation of modern economics is based on the work of Imam Abu Yousuf, Ibn e Taymiyyah, Ghazali, Farabi etc.
The core difference lies in the concept of interest which is not only absent in Islamic Economic Principles but is absent. The second article of the series will be on Islamic Economic Governance.

In Robert Jeffress' appearance on the Fox Network, he engaged in a practice that has become commonplace on the Fox Network, implying that Barack Obama is a “secret Muslim.” This Southern Baptists pastor condemned Barack Obama for not giving Easter its public recognition, and then continued with the usual code words to imply that Barack Obama is not a “true American” but a “Muslim.” The fact that a supposedly reputable news network allowed this kind of rhetoric on the air is a sad sign of the status Muslims hold in American society. The statements that Robert Jeffress made on national television cannot be viewed as nothing except racist. Using the word “Muslim” as an insult, as a way to demean another person is comparable to calling someone a “Jew” in reference to every single negative stereotype that has been associated with Judaism. While this would be completely unacceptable in today's American society (although would not have raised any eyebrows fifty years ago,) using the word “Muslim” as an insult has become completely acceptable in the present political discourse.
What
no one at the Fox Network, and certainly not Robert Jeffress, pointed
out is that absolutely no president has officially recognized Easter
through a proclamation. After all, Easter is a purely religious holiday,
and has no place in official government business.
Something that the Fox Network and Robert Jeffress also failed to point
out is that President Barack Obama had repeatedly mentioned Easter in
non-official statements, and held a special Easter breakfast just a few
days before Robert Jeffress' appearance on the Fox Network. The fact
that Robert Jeffress failed to raise the same objection about any other
previous president suggests that his remarks are actually motivated on
Barack Obama's race rather than any true religious sentiment.
This is a particularly thorny situation for Muslims.
The United States has had a long struggle with racial disparity and
granting civil rights to black people. In fact, Islam had a huge role to
play in the civil rights movement, particularly as many of those
involved in the fight for civil rights embraced Islam as the religion of
their ancestors, forcibly taken away when they were captured and sold
as slaves to the plantations in the southern states. Now, a large
portion of the American public is upset about having a black president.
While it is completely unacceptable in the United States to refer to the
president as a “nigger” on national television, it seems that the
people at the Fox Network and Robert Jeffress have found that the word
“Muslim” works as a way to replace it.

Warsi convinces UK Govt. to practically tackle Islamophobia
London: A good news for the Muslims residing in Britain rises as the Chairman Conservative Party, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, has successfully convinced the British government after the efforts of a year that Islamophobia has prevailed in the British society and become a taboo and the menace needs to curbed practically.
According
to the sources, the UK government has accepted that Islamophobia in the
Britain is socially acceptable now and in order to wipe out the menace,
it has formulated a cross-government working group to deal with
anti-Muslim hatred.
The
group formulation is inspired by the model of anti-Semitism group which
was formed by the previous Labor government for the Jewish community in
Britain and has become a highly influential cross-government group
dealing with anti-Jewish sentiments.
The
Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) is chairing the
group for Muslims. The group has representatives from across government
including the Cabinet Office, the Department for Education, the Foreign
and Commonwealth Office, the Home Office and the Ministry of Justice. It
was learnt that the group will also include leading UK academicians as
Dr. Chris Allen from Birmingham University and Dr. Matthew Goodwin from
Nottingham University.
The
prominent Muslims across Britain have also been given representation in
the group that includes Imam Qari Asim from Leeds Makkah Masjid, Akeela
Ahmed from Muslim Youth Helpline and Fiyaz Mughal of Faith Matters.
They will serve as key members of the group.
The
Muslim community in Britain has warmly welcomed the effort of the
government and hoped that the group will help portray the positive and
moderate posture of the Muslims and will help non-Muslims remove
misconceptions about the Muslims living in their neighbors and working
at the same office.
The formation of
the group is linked back to the speech of the first Muslim Cabinet
Minister in UK, Baroness Warsi, in January 2011 at Leicester University
where she warned the government against the intolerance and prejudice
fast prevailing in the society against Muslims and becoming a normal
practice of the non-Muslims.
Baroness
Warsi was though criticized for raising such a sensitive issue
forcefully in media. But later on, the issue drew the attention of many
influential politicians and civil society and became a burning question
in media that how the Muslims are being mistreated in Britain and they
are becoming intolerable for the non-Muslims without any reason.
Peter
Oborne of Daily Telegraph showed great interest in the social menace
and wrote a pamphlet with James Jones called “Muslims Under Siege.” He
also produced and presented a Channel Four Film on Islamophobia.
When
Pope Benedict XVI visited Britain in 2010, Baroness Warsi had also
discussed the issue of Islamophobia with him and requested him to help
her in creating better understanding between Europe and its Muslim
citizens.
It is a fact that Muslims
are the targets of hostility in Britain and other parts of the world
after 9/11 attacks in the USA. Large processions have been organized
against Muslims in Britain and anti-Muslim networks are established
across Europe.
Faith Matters, a
non-profit group, has developed and launched a system called MAMA
(Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks) that will record statistical data on the
nature of Islamophobia in Britain. The service will help the Britain
government to curb the anti-Muslims sentiments where they are in excess
and keep the record of the victims of Islamophobia.

NEW:
Eating in Seven Intestines
Narrated Nafi: Ibn Umar never used to take his meal unless a poor man was called to eat with him. One day I brought a poor man to eat with him. The man ate way too much, whereupon Ibn Umar said, "O Nafi! Don't let this man enter my house, for I heard the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) saying, 'A believer eats in one intestine (is satisfied with a little food), and a kafir (disbeliever) eats in seven intestines (eats much food)." [Sahih Bukhari]
In other ahadith hypocrites are mentioned, along with Kuffar, as eating in seven intestines. The reality of the matter is that hypocrites are also Kuffar. The difference is that hypocrites pretend to be Muslims and only Allah knows their reality, while the reality of those who openly disbelieve (Kuffar) is known to all.
We can note from this hadith that the illustrious Sahabah did not even like hypocrites to enter their homes, so distasteful was their hypocrisy to the pious and so distant did they want to stay from the evil of hypocrisy.
It also makes sense, when we learn of such ahadith, why Muslim parents tell their children not to eat too much at others homes and avoid doing so themselves too.
Narrated Ibn 'Umar:
ReplyDeleteAllah's Apostle said: Islam is based on (the following) five (principles):
1. To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah's Apostle.
2. To offer the (compulsory congregational) prayers dutifully and perfectly.
3. To pay Zakat (i.e. obligatory charity) .
4. To perform Hajj. (i.e. Pilgrimage to Mecca)
5. To observe fast during the month of Ramadan.
